Commentary is kindof cringe, but the cartoons were hilarious. I'm happy they were so well preserved!

This book is very helpful in covering the American Civil War from the English perspective since the foreign view so often differs from the American interpretation of the same event. I have a complete collection of original PUNCH cartoons depicting Abraham Lincoln and am building a collection of PUNCH cartoons dealing with the Civil War as a whole. Since I do not have PUNCH magazines on hand to read, the book was most useful in identifying cartoons dealing with the war since it is sometimes difficult to discern the subject matter or the meaning of a given cartoon since the English audience's perspective can be obtuse.
